The Heart of Modern India (dir: Laurence Castle) Set in the village of Jejuri in Maharashtra, this 52 minute documentary film reveals a very different India, struggling to cope with the challenges of the 21st century, as seen through the eyes of a 14 year-old girl

Soldiers in Sarongs (dir: Lokendra Arambam) Set in the violence-torn northeastern state of Manipur, this documentary examines the rampant insurgency, the Armed Forces Special Protection Act (AFPSA) and its effect on civilians, especially women and the anti-AFSPA struggles led by them.

All screenings will be followed by a discussion.

LITERATURE
 

OPEN SPACE For the Word presents an evening of R Raj Rao’s poems. Rao, author of the novel The Boyfriend and Nissim Ezekiel: The Authorised Biography will be reading from his forthcoming collection of poems Bomgay, which was made into a film by the late Riyadh Wadia.

STUDY CIRCLE

 

Khoj (coordinated by OPEN SPACE & Aalochana) an informal meeting to discuss issues related to identity, gender, sexuality, aspiration and relationships meets every fortnight on a Wednesday. The first meeting will begin with a screening of Unlimited Girls (dir: Paromita Vohra). Khoj is open to all.
