TALK AND FILM SCREENING

Thursday-Friday, March 8 - 9, 2007, at Open Space
To mark International Women’s Day on March 8, 2007, Open Space invites you to lectures and discussions spread over 2 days, which will address issues of women’s rights and self-assertiveness.

Thursday, March 8, 6.00pm to 7.00pm, at Open Space
Talk on ‘Assertiveness as a tool for women’ by Adithy, a counseling psychologist based in Pune.

Assertiveness as a tool for women:
Women, who have for generations lived to take care of others' needs, and who have  let others define their boundaries, need to be aware of their own rights – their right to have an opinion, a wish or simple happiness. The next step is to be able to express a wish, feeling or opinion effectively rather than wait for the other (in an interpersonal situation) to figure it out.

Being assertive is standing up for one's own rights in such a way that the rights of others are not violated.

The talk is aimed at helping women learn the principles of assertiveness and to get positive results from situations of interpersonal conflict that one encounters.

Adithy is a counseling psychologist and has trained in counseling in the US. She has been doing counseling and psychotherapy and conducting workshops in Pune & Mumbai.

Friday, March 9, 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm, at Open Space
Lecture on the current status and rights of women in our society, by Kiran Moghe, state President and National Joint secretary of the All India Democratic Women’s Association.

Entry free on a first come first served basis only
