'Made by Women' film festival 2005 - Responses...

Dear Friends,
Before I proceed let me introduce myself. I'm going to be a 30 yr old out-of-work male based in pune. For now I use my psuedonym Jivan. I've been part of the Osho commune & seen women when they love & how they can love. Been in couple of relationships & its equally hard for the male. The movie "My Body" is as much or maybe more of an issue about the male psyche. Of course I would be there on monday for the movies & see how things go. But many things disturb me. I'm also a moderator with one of the yahoo groups & hence shared whatever I felt.

Hi brothers & sisters,
Today saw few disturbing movies. The first movie I saw was an Israeli movie called "Purity" which talks about what jewish women have to go through during their 'periods' & how they're known as 'untouchable' or impure during this time. This is also very much a case in some of the villages here in India maybe not so much here in the metros. I also saw a movie yesterday from Iran & also so much repression. I've seen also my culture & even there it's the same story just the methods are different. About few days back a teenage girl got raped by a police constable. The fundamentalist 'Shiv Sena' held the girl responsible & said that she was in the habit of wearing some hot stuff. For me this is stupidity & a kind of mind disease.

Another fresh controversy which is doing the rounds is the bar-girls issue. In Maharashtra & Mumbai in particular over the last 3 decades there has been a culture where men go to a bar to see women dance & pay money for it. There are instances where its a pick-up joint but then there're all shades of a rainbow. Another thing is that even though I'm a member of a local film club here I got to know that movies are re-censored here. Especially the European movies. The only bright beautiful movie till now is 'My body' a Norwegian movie which is a beautiful moving tale about a women who discovers even though she may have imperfections or what others might think, she does find love & she is beautiful to somebody. She has a child & the child is beautiful in every sense of the word. This is something which tells me women are still alive & well.

Sorry if I hurt someone's sensibilities & although the topic is totally off everything, I just had to share it. Of course all brickbats as before, always welcome.
         Shanti Om!
            Jivan

Seeing these movies & then I also saw 2 other movies: Miss Congeniality 2 : Armed &  Fabolous & see 2 different ways of people being & both are right in their own way. The only thing is in Miss C 2 man  has no role to play which might be true as well as sad atleast for us.
          As always confused
