Tishani Doshi
was born in 1975, in Madras, India. She was educated at Queens College and the Johns Hopkins University, USA. She won the Forward Poetry Prize (best first collection) 2006 for her book Countries of the Body (Aark Arts), the All India Poetry Competition 2005 for her poem “The Day we went to the Sea,” and was a finalist in the 2005 Outlook-Picador Non-Fiction competition. She also received an Eric Gregory Award for her poetry in 2001. She currently lives in Madras where she works as a freelance writer and with the dance choreographer Chandralekha, with whom she has performed in many national and international venues. Her first novel, The Pleasure Seekers, is forthcoming from Bloomsbury in 2008.
