| George Szirtes was born in Budapest in 1948, arrived in England as a refugee in 1956 and was brought up in London. He was trained as a painter in Leeds and at Goldsmiths College. He has taught art, history of art and creative writing in various schools and colleges, and currently teaches poetry and creative writing at the Norwich School of Art and Design and the University of East Anglia.
He also won the T.S. Eliot Memorial Poetry Prize in 2004. |
